Three Reasons to Carry Onward

Welcome back to the Art By Humans blog! Today, I'll dive in to the three reasons why you should continue to build your skillset, and why your unique approach to the arts is more necessary than ever.

We hope this practical list will provide both direction and encouragement for you to continue creating your best work yet. If you haven't gotten your feet wet just yet, we hope it provides the courage to get started and discover what you're capable of.

Authenticity

If Artificial Intelligence can be thanked for one thing, it's the newfound search for true authenticity that has begun to take place. What first appeared as an obstacle has become an opportunity to meet an audience that appreciates you unlike ever before.

When you see thousands of likes on a piece of AI-generated art, it's easy to assume that this is what holds value in the eyes of the modern viewer. But just as before, there will be many who don’t see the person behind the work, with a view toward art as an impersonal commodity to be consumed. Even before AI art existed, these people would not have been your target audience. Nowadays, the challenge lies in becoming visible to those who seek to to find you -- another topic to be explored in a future episode!

Personal Impact

Second of all, knowing the potential impact of your art on others creates an incredible impetus to keep putting your best work forward. You don’t know who your art -- with its own unique message and view on life and the world -- could be helping, both now and far into the future.

In my own experience, I can easily recall pieces that deeply touched me, comics that spoke directly to my situation, or even just the testimony of one's incredible talent that inspired me to pick up my tools and try again. I'm almost certain this has been the case for you as well, if not for everyone who has ever set eyes on a creation that moved them in a powerful way.

Pieces like these allow for us to feel more understood and less alone. Knowing the impact you can have on both the individual and the culture at large makes for a great reason to carry onward.

Personal Growth

Third -- and what I would argue to be the most significant reason of all -- you need to do it for yourself. Aside from realizing your full potential, the process of creating and all that comes from it provides innumerable health benefits as well.

Did you know that one of the greatest sources of positive mood comes from movement toward a cherished goal? Furthermore, gaining mastery in a skill provides an important basis for one's confidence and self-esteem. That's to say nothing of the positive benefits of the creative process itself, which scientific sources have supported at length (another topic we'll get into in this show!). Much like exercising has benefits that go far beyond the strengthening of our physical body, so does art carry with it a wealth of benefits that deeply enrich our lives.

That being said, I want to make sure that by no means do fellow artists lose their drive to continue creating. Now, in this day and age, that’s easier said than done — and some days are harder than others. That’s why I want Art By Humans to be a resource that you can come back to any time you need a little nudge to stay on track for becoming the artist you were always meant to be.
